Soccer

Soccer, known as football in most countries outside North America, is a team sport played between two teams of eleven players each. The objective of the game is to score goals by getting a spherical ball into the opposing team’s net, primarily using any part of the body except the arms and hands, with the exception of the goalkeepers, who can use their hands within the penalty area. Soccer is governed by a set of rules known as the Laws of the Game, maintained by the International Football Association Board (IFAB).

The sport is characterized by its emphasis on continuous play, skillful ball handling, and teamwork, and it is played on a rectangular field, known as a pitch, with a goal at each end. The game is divided into two halves of 45 minutes each, with added time for stoppages. Soccer is one of the most popular sports in the world, with millions of players and fans, and various prestigious competitions, including the FIFA World Cup, which is the sport’s premier international tournament. The simplicity of the game’s rules and the minimal equipment required have contributed to its widespread appeal and accessibility.
