Mt. Ontake

Mt. Ontake, also known as Ontake-san, is an active stratovolcano located on the border of Nagano and Gifu Prefectures in central Japan. It is the second-highest volcano in the country, with an elevation of 3,067 meters (10,359 feet). Mt. Ontake is known for its scenic beauty and is revered as a sacred mountain in Japanese culture, frequently visited by pilgrims and hikers. The volcano has a complex geological history and has presented significant eruptive activity, with the most recent major eruption occurring in September 2014, resulting in casualties and ash fallout.
